The Role
Reporting to the CEO and COO you will have responsibility for managing all aspects of our finances and associated reporting.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic, commercially astute accountant with a passion for leading and delivering excellence.
This is a key role within the SYKE team and offers opportunities for development and progression for the right candidate.
In the early stages, you will need to be hands-on in controlling the day-to-day accounting for the business; but your ambition will be to become a future finance director and strategic partner to the Board where you will assist in the overall growth and strategy of the business.
As the role grows you will hire a finance team to provide support but, initially, you will work with the assistance of the operations team and cover all day-to-day accounting (using Xero) through to budgeting, forecasting, management and statutory accounts.
You’ll be resilient and comfortable in a rapidly changing environment, and an excellent communicator with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation. We’d also expect you to have strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
On a day-to-day basis you can expect to spend your time:
- Producing management accounts and associated reporting, analysis and insight to aid the business in achieving its objectives
- Managing the invoicing process, accounts payable and chasing debtors
- Preparation and execution of payroll
- Monitoring cashflow
- Managing and coordinating monthly reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
- Ensuring that the business meets all its statutory and compliance obligations, including HMRC and tax issues.
Ideally, we’d like to meet someone with a relevant professional accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with some degree of post-qualification experience in a similar environment.

About SYKE
SYKE is the fastest-growing independent legal technology consultancy in the world. Our mission is to help transform the global legal industry.
We do this by embedding the latest innovative technology and by removing unnecessary tasks, which in turn frees lawyers up to do what they do best – practise law. Our work includes legal operations, strategy, procurement, software implementation and development.
We work with the majority of the leading software tools, and we’re proud to be partners with DocuSign, Icertis, Thomson Reuters and many others. Our clients include some of the world’s leading brands and companies.
As lawyers ourselves, we recognise that the industry we love is going through an unprecedented period of disruption. Rather than fear the change ahead, we believe there are great opportunities to do things better, save firms money, and improve outcomes for our clients and customers.
We have strong values: We don’t mince our words, we always say it straight, we say what we think, and tell our clients what we’re up to.
Our roots are in Yorkshire, but we operate globally and have teams based in countries as far and wide as Australia, USA, Spain, India and Malaysia.
We employ over 80 lawyers, former lawyers and technologists, each one a specialist in legal tech engineering. We are a flexible, agile organisation, and we’re far more interested in what our people do, than where or when they do it.
